Our test prep program focuses on strengthening your skills and developing test-taking strategies.
Though many private schools, colleges, and universities have adopted the test-optional policy in admissions, having standardized test scores will help give your application an edge. Standardized tests allow the school’s admissions team to evaluate a student more thoroughly and make a determination whether to offer them a chance to be part of their institution. For students who are aiming to get into the top school of their choice, it’s best to take the time to prepare for the test and ensure that they would be submitting a good score with their application.
Our expert tutors and coaches at Cardinal Education work with students to develop the study skills and test-taking strategies they need to be competitive for college and private school admissions. We have dedicated tutors who provide assistance in test preparation, particularly the ISEE practice test, SSAT practice test, HSPT practice test, SAT practice test, and ACT practice test for students seeking private school admission or college admission.
Our Burlingame and Woodrow offices are open for in-person test prep tutoring but we also offer online tutoring for those located in other cities and for those processing their admission from other countries.
Yes, we recommend that you still submit test scores despite the test-optional policy in admissions. The competition for applications to top schools is tight and you need to get as many points on the board in order to set yourself apart from the other candidates. Cardinal Education can help your family navigate private school admissions and college admissions and assist in preparing your child for taking the test. The fundamental principle of submitting test scores, especially to highly selective and top-tier schools, is that they should be good enough to give you an edge, otherwise, you can and should refrain from submitting any. If you have taken both the SAT and ACT, you may choose to submit whichever gets the higher score. But if you have taken both and acheived excellent results, it would be wise to submit both test scores to give admissions officers a good insight into your profile. Great scores on both tests have a positive indicator of your character which could set you apart from the pool of applicants. College-bound students usually take SAT practice tests and ACT practice tests the summer before junior year to get ready for the test in the spring or winter. However, we strongly suggest that you start preparing during the freshman year, or even earlier if possible. The reason behind this is that you would need to develop more than just your test-taking skills, but also your reading comprehension, critical thinking, and writing skills, particularly if you are planning to take the ACT. You can retake any of these tests if you are not satisfied with the scores you received. The SAT can be taken as many times as you like. The ACT can be taken up to 12 times. Find the perfect timing to retake the tests and have practice tests in between. If you get a low score on your SAT practice tests and ACT practice tests, there is still time to take corrective action so you can obtain the score you are aiming for. This can be done through a test prep program where the rigor and intensity of the coaching can be tailored to your needs in order to address your weaknesses and other areas of concern. However, if you get a low score on the actual test during your senior year, you might have to retake the test at a later date or consider not submitting your results with your college application if it’s too late to take another one. Most private schools require either the ISEE or SSAT while Catholic schools usually require the HSPT. Check the admissions website of the school you are applying for to know what tests they require and how to register for them. Cardinal Education offers the best ISEE practice test, SSAT practice test, and HSPT practice test for students seeking private school admission.Frequently Asked Questions
