What is the difference between tutoring and academic coaching?

Tutoring focuses on specific skills needed to learn and improve on a particular subject. An English tutor, for example, may zero in on grammar and give additional exercises on top of assisting with homework. A math tutor may just focus on decimals and percentages if those are the problematic areas for a student. Academic coaching, on the other hand, is about developing strategies to make learning more efficient and effective. It involves the overall management of the life of a student to help them manage their time, prioritize tasks, and develop strategies and skills to cope and thrive in school.
