What is the Character Skills Snapshot, and why is it required for Flintridge Prep applicants?

The Character Skills Snapshot is an assessment used by Flintridge Prep to gain insight into a student’s non-academic traits, such as resilience, teamwork, and empathy. This tool helps the admissions team evaluate a student’s character, which is a vital component of the holistic admissions process at Flintridge Prep.

Unlike standardized tests that focus solely on academics, the Character Skills Snapshot assesses qualities that contribute to a student’s overall success in school and life. It evaluates eight key character traits: intellectual curiosity, initiative, open-mindedness, resilience, self-control, social awareness, teamwork, and responsibility.

The assessment takes about 30 minutes and can be completed online. It is designed to be a low-stress evaluation and doesn’t require any preparation or studying. The goal is to capture a student’s natural tendencies in different situations.

Flintridge Prep values character development as much as academic achievement, and the Character Skills Snapshot helps them identify students who will contribute positively to the school’s community. It complements other parts of the application, such as transcripts and teacher recommendations, giving the admissions team a fuller picture of the applicant.
