What is executive function disorder?

Executive function disorder or executive dysfunction is not a medically diagnosed condition. It is a weakness in the part of the brain that controls and regulates skills such as organization, time management, memory, and attention. All these are also present when a person is diagnosed with ADHD but it doesn’t mean that a person who has executive dysfunction automatically has ADHD. Executive function ADHD is a clinical diagnosis wherein all the symptoms constitute a medical condition. Executive dysfunction, on the other hand, can be caused by other conditions such as learning disorders, environmental distractions, emotional stress, lack of discipline, or depression. When these conditions are addressed accordingly, executive dysfunction gradually decreases and executive function skills are developed. Whereas, in ADHD, the symptoms do not disappear. They are only managed and controlled through therapy and sometimes medication.
